Disability Policy Research ForumsThe CSDP hosts a bimonthly lunchtime seminar series providing decision makers and others with an opportunity to hear about the latest disability policy research findings and discuss implications for disability policy. Experts from the center present recently released findings and lead discussions about their policy implications. Overview: Henry Ireys will present an overview of the Demonstration to Maintain Independence and Employment (DMIE). This initiative, sponsored by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, is intended to help states assist workers with potentially disabling conditions. Ireys will discuss the rationale for DMIE, review its core goals, and describe how four states have implemented the program. Gilbert Gimm will present preliminary quantitative and qualitative findings from the national DMIE evaluation. He also will review the evaluation design and use of random assignment, discuss program impacts on employment and federal disability outcomes, and highlight lessons learned.
